The Torch Magazine is a bi- annual publication of Bigard Memorial Seminary, Enugu. As the official gazette of the seminary, it began as a humbled 8-paged perodical in 1954 with the named “Faith and Fatherland.” The decision for her creation was taken on the 22nd of March, 1954, with A. Aghaiza (Chairman), G. Eche (Msgr), Late V. Maduike (Msgr), L. Atang (Fr), I. Ndichia (Fr), G. Akpan (Msgr) and Francis A. Arinze (Cardinal) as pioneer members. The pioneers, notwithstanding the many difficulties that accompany a new venture came up with the first issue of the “Faith and Fatherland” which was sold then for four pence a copy. The name was later changed to “The Torch Magazine” and with the continuous effort of the editorial crew and the seminary authorities, she has over the years gained a wider audience extending beyond the annals of Africa to Europe and beyond. Indeed, the Torch Magazine is one of the most consistent and enriching publications produced by students of any higher institutions in the world.
